How Duolingo made me rethink the design process
Published on
An analysis of how Duolingo uses its design philosophy, detailed in its Handbook, to create a globally recognized learning experience.
You know when you find material that organizes your ideas and gives you a new vocabulary to defend good design? That's what I felt when reading the Duolingo Handbook.
More than just a success story, the document reveals the philosophy behind one of the most successful apps in the world. Their journey, with its hits and misses, resulted in principles that are a true lesson for all of us.

One of the highlights is how they balance agility with quality. The "Ship It!" mindset encourages rapid experimentation, but without ever sacrificing a standard of excellence, guided by principles like "Raise the Bar". It is a powerful reminder that speed and quality can (and should) go together.
It leaves us with a reflection: are we really building products with a long-term vision and the courage to experiment and learn along the way?
I'm sharing the link for anyone who also wants to get inspired. It is worth every minute!
